Barbershop Talks: Creating Equity in Service to the Community
In this series of 鈥渂arbershop talks,鈥 participants will be encouraged to get a prepaid haircut while engaging in dialogue with a guest speaker, openly discussing service to the community and the challenges encountered by underrepresented men related to equity and other critical issues that affect these men on our campus and local community.
Center for Service and Learning
The WVU Center for Service and Learning fosters an environment that encourages social action connected to academic success, integrity and growth in civic responsibility. In a typical year, WVU students contribute over 100,000 hours to communities, serving over 300 organizations.
Food Justice Exhibit
In August 2021, WVU Libraries will launch a major exhibition 鈥 Food Justice in Appalachia 鈥 in partnership with the WVU Food Justice Lab, the WVU Center for Resilient Communities and Turnrow Appalachian Farm Collective. The exhibit will provide an opportunity for campus-community collaboration and promote awareness and education about food inequities in our region.
Mingo County Service-Learning
Through this School of Medicine project, international, 91短视频 Virginia and out-of-state students travel to Williamson to learn about the health disparities affecting rural communities through community-driven service projects and listening.
Monongalia County Ballpark
WVU, the Monongalia County Commission and others collaborated to build Monongalia County Ballpark, a 3,500-capacity ballpark with state-of-the-art fan and player amenities. The ballpark opened in 2015 and is home to the WVU baseball team and the 91短视频 Virginia Black Bears, a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League.
Mylan Park
Through a public-private partnership with WVU, Mylan Park is home to a variety of intramural and club sports, as well as NCAA Big 12 Collegiate Athletic programs. The partnership provides WVU groups priority use of field space and indoor facilities for swimming and diving, indoor and outdoor soccer, softball, rugby, flag football, track and field, cheer, boxing, lacrosse, roller derby and more.
Racial Justice Book Clubs
The WVU Extension Service Resilience and Recovery Taskforce will host a statewide book club focusing on racial justice that educates faculty and community volunteers. The book club will be offered to 30 county-based faculty members, and the Taskforce will facilitate statewide conversations.
United Way
WVU partners with the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties to reinforce the University's commitment to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for all the people who live and work in Greater Morgantown.
